| Ryder |
| Ryder is a young light brindle male with natural ears and a cropped tail. He is a darling young boy that is full of puppy enthusiasm. He comes from a situation of neglect. He lived on a rope, outdoors 24/7 without food and water. When the authorities removed him, he was depressed and emaciated. This is NOT how a dog should have to live!!! He has bounced back at the vet clinic in their care. He's a tad bit cautious with men, but he warms up quickly. His body just wiggles all over the place!! He adores kids, but he is too much for small children. He would accidentally knock them over. He knows basic obedience, he's learning to curtail his puppy enthusiasm to keep his rear end on the floor in a "sit" "stay". He's trying SO hard!! He really wants to please and he's learning so much, so fast. He is house and kennel trained. Ryder would benefit from a family that is devoted to providing the type of obedience training that all young boxers need. A round of group obedience will be required with this adoption. This will help the family bond and Ryder will learn to obey with the distractions of other furry friends around him. I included a couple of pictures of Ryder as he was found in his backyard without food or water. He was so dejected he didn't even lift his head to look at his rescuers. This is truly a dog that had given up. Living at the end of a rope, digging a hole to lie in during the heat of summer and cold of winter. It's not his fault, but he's never had the opportunity to really bond with a human. He prefers to romp and play with the other dogs. We are spending a lot of one on one time with him to help him understand that he has leaders and their are boundaries. Ryder will never know another cold night in his life or the feeling of extreme thirst or hunger. He is one of the lucky ones. Someone noticed and took action. This goes on every single day in our country and it happens in homes that CAN afford to care for their animals. There are no excuses for this kind of neglect!! Boxers adore humans, so it rarely has a long lasting effect on them. UPDATE 1/17/12: Ryder has been with us for some now. He is improving daily in his skills. He will go to the back door when he has to go potty, but sometimes forgets to do all his business when outside. So we monitor that for now. He's so anxious to play with the other dogs, he tries to hurry, so he can run back in the house and have play time. He is a very silly, goofy boy that is a little quirky, but that adds to his charm. He always has that quizzical look on his face like everything is a new adventure. He has never met a dog he doesn't like and he's ready to play with any human that comes through the door. I do think because he spent so much time outside, he would rather not be out there alone for very long. He comes right away when he is called and knows some basic obedience. He would thrive in an active family that enjoys doing training exercises, going for walks, camping, anything that would include him. He thinks like a puppy and it's easy to forget, he still is, his body is just full grown. He has filled out completely and I noticed tonight the start of a dimple near his rearend, so we may have went a little over in that area. :o) He loves his snacks, lives for toys, loves his chewies and will kennel right up when you open the door. He just needs someone that will LOVE him for who he is. He will return it a hundred times over. It all seems so new and strange to him, but every day he become more comfortable in the life he is supposed to live. Now he just needs his Forever Family to complete it.
