UPDATE: Dexter is still searching for his forever home. Is he the right dog for you?

Dexter is a one year old hearing white male with natural ears and a cropped tail. He is house trained, kennel trained and is your typical young male boxer. He would do best with another playful dog in the house and a family that can take him with
them on their activities. He is very social with other dogs of any size. Dexter is your typical goofy, silly boxer boy, that loves to have things to chew on and play with. He’ll romp and play until he needs a nap.

Dexter loves to go for walks, play with his toys and have chew toys to occupy himself. He has such a sweet temperament, he would be great in a home with children. His former home had another male boxer and several various little breed dogs. He was wonderful with all of them.

Dexter is doing great in his foster home. He has another young male boxer that loves to play with him, plus there are three female dogs of various ages and breeds. He is great with the kids in the house and is a very loving boy. He is really easy to work into a new family because he is so social and sweet.

Dexter has also slimmed down to a perfect weight since BHBR took him in. He is still very food driven, but is on scheduled feedings and looks fantastic. He really is one handsome boy! He’s doing very well with his house skills and is one of the sweetest dogs we’ve had in rescue. He is going to make some family very happy!! Its not uncommon for Dexter to snuggle up with his foster brother, Bingo. They play and play together. Normally BHBR does not put same sex dogs together, but Dexter gets along with any dog, so it works in this case.

Dexter’s nickname in his foster home is “Tech Support”. Every time someone opens up a laptop, he squishes his nose right in it to help. He loves to help you when you’re on the computer.

Dexter is ready for his forever home!! He is looking for a family that will invest some time into his training. He does respond very well to basic commands. Adoption Donation: $275. Fill out an application if interested.

Buster started out in rescue so emaciated he didn’t have the energy to stand. He was left outdoors in subzero weather, without food or water. He was seriously near death when found. Buster was also attacked by some other dogs while in this state, so he developed a serious fear of strange dogs. His foster mom has worked tirelessly with him on socialization. He currently is in a foster home with four other pugs, without issues; this took a little bit of work the first couple of days and then he was fine.

The following update was written by his foster mom.

Ok, so this is what makes Buster a great dog.

First and foremost he is a “go with the flow” kind of dog. His mood reflects that of the house. He is always ready and willing to go, but if the day calls for quiet downtime he complies without complaint. Though you will get many sad pleading eyes asking for a walk!

Buster is housetrained, crate trained, trustworthy when left home alone out of a crate, and never destructive in any way (unless you count the tracks he makes tearing around the yard-we don’t!). He respects open doors and only goes out when given permission (except the patio door to the backyard).

He is also very quiet unless you are playing with him in a very rambunctious manner. When he gets to doing the kidney bean-watch your toes, he does weigh 90+ pounds. It’s best to keep active play outside with him. If he does get out of hand, a hand on his collar and a “sit” is all it takes to calm him down.

Buster heels very nicely on “city” walks and doesn’t pull when on hikes using a retractable leash. He will walk by other dogs out walking on the other side of the street and those in their fenced yard very nicely now; he shows interest, but keeps moving forward. He just needs to know who is in charge and what you expect of him.

Buster has shown tremendous tolerance with a certain pug in the house; he can get jumped on, nipped at and annoyingly licked in the face and he just takes it all. He is also very tolerant of the pugs being under foot in general and while feeding. All in all Buster has come so far and he’s just such a big love who just wants to hang out with his humans (and he will follow you everywhere you go) and he really does love the company of other dogs once he gets to know them. Those pugs make great snuggle buddies.

Buster is sensitive too. It doesn’t take much to scold him if you have to and he really does care what your mood is. Also, he’s young, but way past that constant state of motion stage. He’s a sweet, sweet boy that considers a successful day one spent with his family doing whatever!

Adoption Donation is $275.

She doesn’t appear to have much in the way of Bullmastiff features, she is just taller than a typical boxer female with a heavier looking muzzle.

Isandra is young and energetic. She would benefit from someone putting some time into her obedience training. She not hard to handle, she’s very smart, she just needs to know what YOUR rules are. Currently her foster mom is working on obedience training and reports that Isandra is doing very well.

So far Isandra has done well meeting other dogs. She has not been tested with cats. She is living with a male pitbull/lab mix and a young female Yorkshire Terrier. She gets along great with them. BHBR will continue to update her bio with information from her foster mom!!

If interested in Isandra, fill out an application. She is ready to go to her Forever Home! Her adoption donation will be $275.

Great News BRODIE IS ADOPTED!!! Brodie is a big handsome hearing white boxer with natural ears and a cropped
tail. He has a blue eye and a brown eye, and this is so striking. He is so muscle bound and beautifully proportioned. He is very intelligent, he will drop into a sit or a down with any treat enticement. He also shakes hands and would probably do back flips if he thought he’d get some kind of morsel.

He’s a lot of boxer boy, but he listens pretty good. He is very impish and has a ton of character. He comes barreling through the house like a bull in a china shop, but he’ll settle down as he matures. He’s about a year and a half old, so he’s still very young. He loves his belly rubs and any kind of touch and attention.

Brodie lost his family to a military transfer. He has always been very loved and it’s obvious.

So here is the question of the hour: why is Jasmine not getting the interest the other dogs are getting?

These pictures do NOT do her justice!

Jasmine is a classic brindle female with natural ears and cropped tail. She is a wonderful boxer girl that wants to be with her humans. That drive to be with her humans, unfortunately, has yielded a passion for scaling fences. She can easily scale any size chain link fence if left alone in the yard or kennel on her own. She just goes looking for her humans, she doesn’t do it to run away. Don’t worry there is an easy fix — she needs to be kenneled indoors while you’re at work. Boxers love to be with their owners and if left alone, many times do resort to tactics such as this.

Jasmine bonds quickly to someone showing love and attention She’s a sweet girl who just wants to please. She’s house and crate trained, but will pull on the leash. A Gentle Leader or Halti would likely take care of that. A bit into her walk, she will stop pulling after her initial excitement has passed.

She does not meet dogs well on a leash, but does very well meeting them off leash. She cannot live in a home with cats as her prey drive is too strong. It would take a lot of work to change her prey drive, but it can be done. She is a total snugglebug, preferring to sleep with you if there is room.

If someone is looking for an adult boxer around the age of three, this is your girl!

She’s highly intelligent and easy to train. She responds very well to positive reinforcement training. She is currently fostering with a male pitbull mix and a male dachshund. If interested in Jasmine, fill out an application. Her adoption donation will be $250.

He is far too thin for his frame, so he’ll need to bulk up before he is adopted. He was neutered and has been fully vaccinated, de-wormed and microchipped.

He has been alleged to have climbed out of a six-foot kennel in his former home and ran off. So far, he has not made any attempts to leave the yard since arriving in rescue. He is more interested in coming back into the house to be around the people and other dogs. If left outside for long periods of time, Capone may attempt to jump the fence out of boredom. Boxers are not dogs that can be left out in the yard. They will start to dig or do something they should not, just because they are bored. This breed prefers to be with their humans. If their humans are at work, it’s best to kennel indoors. Capone kennels up beautifully and will also go right outside and does his business. He’s interested in sniffing around a bit, then he’s right back in the house. If he should show interest in jumping the fence, BHBR will require a six-foot privacy fence (something he can’t climb out of). BHBR also will not allow him to be chained or tied up outside in an unfenced yard — he has two broken canines from trying to get out of that type of situation. One is freshly broken, the other is an old break. The vet did not want to remove the upper canine because of the risk of a nasal fistula.

Capone is a very gentle soul. He is timid around men, but warms up after he’s had time to get to know them. His inner boxer is beginning to emerge. He will gently come up and give kisses. He responds to basic commands and is very obedient. This is a very easy boxer!! He is currently on crate rest until his neuter surgery heals. He will go to work with his foster mom for continued socialization and assessment. He has a healthy appetite and he is expected to put weight on before long. There is no reason for hip points, spine and rear end bones to be jutting out. That is a indication of something.

If are interested in adopting Capone, fill out our online application. His adoption donation will be $250. We will continue to update this listing with additional information from his foster family

He’s a flashy fawn male with natural ears and a docked tail. Dudley has so much white on his face it’s very unusual and pretty.

His foster family say that he is very obedient, knows basic commands and will comply. Dudley is both house and kennel trained. He is also well-behaved on leash. He is surprisingly obedient for his age. If you have a treat, he’ll sit until you tell him to do otherwise.

Dudley is a typical young boxer puppy – exuberant and loves life! He will benefit greatly from a home that can provide plenty of exercise and supervised playtime with other dogs or children. He is really good with children, but due to his young age, might scratch or knock down a toddler. Dudley will plays like any other boxer pup. In foster, he’s been best buddies with Brutus; they wrestle, run and play for hours. He has met other dogs and played well with them too. This is one of the nicest little guys we’ve had in rescue.

If interested in Dudley, fill out an application right away, this boy will not be available for long. He would be a great boxer for a first-time boxer owner. Dudley’s adopt donation will be $275.

Meet Tank: one of BHBR’s newest residents. Yes, Tank is a tank! His breeder referred to him as a “Custom Bulldog.” He’s actually an English Bulldog and American Bulldog mix, which makes him a very large boy with all of the bullish traits found in both breeds.

Tank is a little more than a year old. Currently, his face is inflamed around the eyes, nose, mouth, and ears — this is due to the fact that bulldogs, in general, need a specialized diet and care to prevent this kind of inflammation. His foster home has started him on a “yummy” blend of Duck and Potato dog food. Tank cannot EVER go on “regular” dog food like he was on at the shelter.

Tank lost his beloved home because he is too much dog and there are too many little children. During a playful wrestling session with the kids, one child stood up with a nick on his cheek while Tank and the others were still playing. BHBR does not know if it was a toenail or a tooth that caused the injury. This dog has a big mouth. He did not bite, but because of the amount of children in the house, his previous owner felt she had to make this painful decision (and she has had him since he was a puppy).

Tank retreated from reality in the shelter and could not handle the stress; this is a unfortunately a common occurrence in many dogs when entering a shelter-type environment. Tank was scared to death. One of BHBR volunteers worked with him to see if his behavior was shelter related or part of his temperament. On the first day, she was able to get him to eat out of her hand. By day three, she had looped a leash around his neck and took him out for a walk. While the loop scared him (he had been catch-poled every day prior), once he realized he wasn’t in danger, he began looking for people to come walk him, even vocalizing and jumping up and down when he saw them.

BHBR graciously opened our doors and took in this loveable guy.

Tank gently takes treats from your hand and loves to go for walks. He will dive into a baby pool and look for tennis balls with his entire head under water. He loves to play tug, and chase balls. He also loves treats, but so far only responds to “sit.” He is house trained and can get exuberant on the leash, but will respond to your commands to settle down.

Be prepared that Tank does play very rough. You may get bruised and scratched if you wrestle with this big dog. However, he settles down the minute you tell him enough. He shows no signs of food or toy possessiveness and will back away from either when told. He also ride beautifully in the car! Tank will sit like a human in the passenger seat and gazes out the window, checking to make sure you’re still there, every now and then.

Tank is a brave, protective dog, which is his breeding, but he listens when commanded. These types of dogs need very strong ownership and Tank is best suited for a home with prior “bully breed” experience.

Tank is neutered, up to date on all vaccines and microchipped. He will not go to a home with children and will only be a adopted to a home with PRIOR BULLY EXPERIENCE. Tank’s next home will be his Forever Home!

Bentley is a six-month-old ,classic brindle male with natural ears and cropped tail. BHBR does have his papers to show his lineage, but they will be voided since he has been neutered. He is also vaccinated, on heartworm preventative, wormed and in good health. He is currently healing from a couple of fairly large sores on one side of his body. BHBR is not sure if he got close to a moving vehicle, or if he injured himself trying to get out of an enclosure; however, Bentley is healing nicely.

Bentley is a little timid at first, but with time, he will open up into his true boxer puppy personality. He has had little training, and BHBR believes this is why he ended up in a shelter. With a lot of love, a little bit of training, Bentley will be your dream boxer. He is as sweet as they come and quite handsome for being in the middle of his “gawky” stage. His coloring is very pretty, he could use a few more pounds, but other than that, he should thrive in a loving home.

Bentley

This little guy will not last long in rescue. BHBR would advises that any interested applicants begin the adoption application process now to ensure your application is added to the potential adoptive pool for Bentley. As with all our boxers, BHBR will choose the family we feel is best suited for each boxer. He will need commitment, and a required by BHBR adoption contract, attendance in a group obedience class. BHBR does need proof of this class within 60 days of his adoption. Bentley’s adoption donation is $275. Fill out an application if you are interested in meeting Bentley.

Meet Sage!

Sage is an adult reverse brindle female with natural ears and a cropped tail. She is an itty bitty little boxer girl that wants nothing more than to please her people. She is able to scale a fence or climb out of an outside kennel. Again, this is because she wants to be with her people and is not happy left outdoors for long periods of time.

Sage has lived with children, other dogs, but has not been tested with cats. She is very curious about really dominant small dogs, but is easily redirected. She knows basic obedience commands. She is house and kennel trained. She walks nicely on a leash, the entire time staring lovingly up at you.

This little girl is BIG on love. She’s would be an easy dog to start with if you are new to the boxer breed. She makes these funny little noises when she is excited. It sounds like she is saying num num num!

Her coat just glistens. She has a lot of black in her coloring and it is very striking. She does need to put on some weight, and has been since arriving in rescue. She has a healthy appetite and is easy to train with food as a motivator.

If you are interested in this little girl, please fill out an application. Her adoption donation will be $250
